My Philosophy & Therapeutic Approach
I value my clients’ stories and resiliency, and I believe that every individual is the expert of their own life. It takes immense courage and strength to reach out to someone for help to navigate through challenges and life transitions. Therefore, I feel privileged to work alongside my clients and have them share with me their joys, losses, suffering, fears, anger, successes; and to witness their journey towards healing, self-love, and personal growth.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and collaborative. Everyone has their own unique story, and I integrate different therapeutic modalities to fit your individual values, goals and needs. I provide a safe, and non-judgmental space for you to be present and to feel supported and understood. I am known for my empathy, compassion, honesty, genuineness, creativity, and sense of humour. I believe in the significance of living in the present moment: “to be the mountain” and my approach aims to help you evolve and nurture yourself through patience, curiosity, openness, self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.
What Happens in Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy provides a confidential space where you can share the problems you are struggling with, and receive the support you need. At the beginning of treatment, I will complete a comprehensive assessment, including historical information that is related to your current problems. We will then work together and co-create your therapeutic goals and an appropriate treatment plan that is mutually agreed upon. We will then spend your psychotherapy sessions understanding your thought processes and behavioural patterns, learning new ways for addressing your issues, and changing your behaviour(s). It is also important for you to take an active and participatory role in psychotherapy to increase your understanding and awareness of the origins of your presenting issues, and to make the best use of our time together. In-between sessions, it is optimal if you spend a minimum of 30 to 60 minutes each to incorporate reflective exercises, and experiment with new skills and tools to work towards a healthier and meaningful life.
The length of treatment varies between individuals, and it is usually a minimum of 6 to 20 sessions, with each session 50 minutes in duration. Initially, it is important that we meet on a weekly basis to decrease your symptoms and to build your coping skills. Once you become confident with the learned skills and tools, time between your appointments will occur once every two weeks, three weeks or monthly.
